Dexter Harrington Cutlery Co. 12" Slicer Carbon Steel Gutta Percha Pre-WW2 1902-30s
Pre-WW2 Dexter slicer with stamped carbon steel blade and vulcanized rubber 'gutta percha' handle. The curved Harrington Cutlery Co mark was not used after WW2 and the handle material is much older than that, gutta percha was popular in the late 19th century especially before the widespread use of plastics, it was durable and grippy and made good knife handles among thousands of other uses.
Harrington Dexter knives have a distinctive design with many knives sporting a one piece handle wood or otherwise and blades characterized by parallel spine and edge and a round pointed tip.
A great bit of American knife history here, these Curved pre-war marked knives with gutta percha handles coming around far less often than the later post war knives.
