Lamson & Goodnow MFG co 8" Bread Knife Carbon Steel Lamson Pat Bolster Rosewood USA 1850s-80s

Lamson & Goodnow MFG co 8" Bread Knife Carbon Steel Lamson Pat Bolster Rosewood USA 1850s-80s
An interesting knife here from the mid 19th century that shows how the serrated bread knife of today that has been codified as the norm has not always been. This round nosed slicer does not have the usual German influence of the Hamburg style knife (sheepsfoot tip with two humps on back) that has become a standard.
Forged carbon steel with Lamson patented applied pressed steel bolster and rosewood handle. It had seen a little rust but no abuse, an uncommon knife here and a great part of the somewhat messy bread knife story
