John Bagshaw & Sons Liverpool Carving Knife & Steel C. 1901

Made for the John Bagshaw & Sons Co. a Liverpool retailer for domestic sale; no ‘England’ on mark but post 1891 manufacture.

Blade and steel are carbon steel with sterling silver and stag handles. This is the remnants of a larger grander set but still with lots of charm.

The sterling silver hallmarks identify the manufacture of the handles as being from Sheffield (crown and lion marks) and dated at 1901 with the lowercase gothic letter ‘i’

Carbon steel blade is 9.5” from tip to bolster, the blade is very full with no damage from bad sharpening or other mistreatment. Some light pits but nothing severe. Steel is coarse but still usable.
