Jernbolaget 7" Utility / Slicer Forged Carbon Ebony Eskilstuna, Sweden 1950s-70s
This knife has a very distinctive Swedish design to it identical to ones marked Jernbolaget using a cast pewter (lead free, tested) to set the tang in the handle forming a ferrule in the process. The overall design draws on the old French Cuisine Massif (AKA Nogent) style, but the handle shape, with its short birdshead and flared center, is definitely Swedish.
The parent company of Jernbolaget Jernmanufaktur operated a factory that made a large variety of household and industrial goods, as well as operating a pig iron foundry and iron and steel manufacture.
This knife was slightly thick behind the edge when found and has been thinned to restore its original geometry. There is a small, tight hairline crack at the butt, it is solid and stable.
