Vintage J A Henckels carbon steel cleaver made in Soilngen Germany likely from the 1900 to 1920s judging from handle materials and construction, hand forged with a strong taper in the tang. 

Thinned and resurfaced, it had seen some heavy rust and was sharpened in some, blade has a fresh convex edge and is ready to get to work. Handle shows wear but no cracks and all pin and disc rivets are secure
